When Fear Gets Louder Than Faith

This past week, fear started speaking louder than my faith.

By Thursday morning, I knew I was out of sorts. I showed up to my networking group, but I wasn’t really myself.

I had prayed. I had spent time in Scripture. I was trying to redirect my thoughts.

And still, I could feel myself slipping deeper into fear and confusion.

So I did something that doesn’t always come naturally to me.

I reached out. I texted two friends and told them what was really going on.

I realized that if one of them were struggling the way I was and didn’t reach out because she thought she had to carry it alone, I would want her to call me.

Maybe I needed to let someone do that for me too.

And God used those two friends to remind me of what fear had temporarily made me forget.

One reminded me that God is not the author of confusion. She challenged me to reject the noise, keep turning toward Him, and ask myself whether fear had started overshadowing my trust that God could handle the details I could not.

Then she asked me: Have you really laid this at His feet?

My other friend got on the phone with me, listened, reminded me of many of the same truths, and then said:

“I believe in you, and I believe in what God has prepared for you.”

When I hung up, my circumstances hadn’t changed.

I still didn’t have every answer.

But something in me had shifted.

Fear was no longer the loudest voice.

God had used my friends to remind me:

He has been faithful before.

He is faithful now.

And He will be faithful in whatever comes next.

I’m sharing this because I don’t think I’m the only one who has had a season when fear got louder than faith.

Sometimes we can remember God’s faithfulness on our own.

And sometimes we need someone who loves us to sit beside us and remind us of what we already know.

If fear has been loud for you lately, maybe this is your reminder:

You don’t have to have all the answers today.

Remember where God has carried you before.

Reach out if you need someone to remind you.

And keep turning your attention back to the One who has never stopped being faithful.
