When God’s Goodness Doesn’t Feel Easy

It is easy to believe God is good when life feels settled.

I’ve noticed that in myself lately.

When things are going well, when plans are coming together, when prayers seem to be answered the way I hoped they would, it is easy to say, “God is good.”

But what about when the answer is unclear? When something you counted on changes? When a relationship hurts? When the future suddenly feels less certain than it did a week ago?

That is where I’ve been reminded lately that God’s goodness cannot be measured by how comfortable my circumstances feel.

Because circumstances change.
People change.
Plans change.
Outcomes disappoint us.

God does not.

His goodness was not greater on the days when everything went my way, and it is not diminished on the days when I am confused, disappointed, or unsure of what comes next.

Sometimes faith looks less like receiving the answer we wanted and more like learning to notice God’s presence while we are still waiting for one.

That is the prayer I’m carrying into this week:

Lord, help me stop measuring Your goodness by the ease of my circumstances.

Help me notice where You are already present.

And give me the strength to keep moving forward, even when I cannot see very far ahead.

Maybe you need that reminder too.

Where do you need to look for God’s presence instead of an easy answer this week?
